Garden Isle Delight

Situated oceanfront on what was formerly Kaua‘i Lagoons, Timbers Kaua‘i at Hōkūala is a testament to the idea that all good things come to those who wait. The property spans hundreds of acres, offers luxury residential-style accommodations and activities to please every lifestyle.

“Each residence at Timbers Kaua‘i provides a spacious and relaxing environment with boundless opportunities for outdoor exploration and recreation on the beautiful Garden Isle,” says Gary Moore, Managing Director. “Throughout our centrally located 450 acres, guests can enjoy kayaking and biking on our extensive 16-mile trail system, golfing, surfing and educational tours of our renowned organic farm.”

Guests choose from three residence-style accommodations. The Maliulā Residences are two- and three-bedroom residences with private lanais. These residences all offer panoramic views and a central lagoon-style pool. The oceanfront Lāola Townhomes are three- and four-bedroom spaces with a private pool, carport, a chef’s kitchen and a master retreat on the upper level with a private lanai and an outdoor rain shower. Finally, the Kaiholo Residences offer sophisticated, yet unpretentious, luxury vacation living. Situated on the ocean’s edge, it’s perfect for extended family travelers, or weekend getaways with your friends. The indoor-outdoor design of the living space features an expansive lanai equipped with a grill and seating for both lounging and dining. This is in addition to the full chef’s kitchen just inside the wall-to-wall stacking glass doors. The three- and four-bedroom (two of which are master suites) residences all feature four private lanais, spa-like bathrooms and walk-in closets.

The Timbers Kaua‘i experience begins from before you step foot on property. With available transportation, guests are greeted at the airport. It’s a short drive to the resort, but once you enter Hōkūala, it feels like a world apart.

Lush greenery and sun-dappled waves await, as does a staff that’s available to make your stay an excellent one.

With pre-arrival grocery shopping, the refrigerator and pantry are filled with your favorites, along with a basket of fresh produce from the farm, so you’ll be able to create some culinary magic whenever you choose. Prefer a private chef? That can be arranged as well.

When it’s time to explore, guests will find something to fit every mood, whether it’s a rugged adventure, or a lazy day by the pool.

Guests can choose from teeing off at the Ocean Course, the only Jack Nicklaus course on Kaua‘i. The course, which was named “Hawai‘i’s Best Golf Course” by the 2019 World Golf Awards, also offers FootGolf (think golf, but with soccer balls), a fun way for the entire family to enjoy the course.

Or, traverse all of Hōkūala via the many trails—on foot or on one of the resort’s bicycles.

One of the property’s two golf courses was allowed to go fallow making way for The Farm at Hōkūala. Here, Cody Lee Meyer, aka Farmer Cody, coaxes organic fresh fruit, root veggies, canoe plants such as kalo, noni and breadfruit and more from the ‘aina. Guests are encouraged to get down and dirty with a farm tour that takes participants through the current planting and into the dirt to harvest herbs and vegetables. Farmer Cody works closely with Chef Zach Cummings to provide the freshest produce for the menu at Hualani’s, the resort’s popular oceanfront restaurant. For a full-circle experience, guests may want to opt for a private cooking class that utilizes the bounty for the farm tour: beet poke, anyone?

The Beach Club and Adventure Center is there to help with island exploration. Get some vitamin sea with day at family-friendly Kalapaki Beach complete with beach chairs, umbrella and refreshments. In addition to well-appointed beach days, the staff can help you with surfboards, SUP boards (and provide lessons for neophytes), snorkel gear, canoe rides and kayak rentals.

Those who don’t want sand between their toes can find bliss at the infinity pool at The Hōkūala Club.

Timbers Kaua‘i specializes in providing curated experiences for its guests, such as a hike to a private waterfall, a bike along the Coconut Coast, touring a chocolate farm, a kayak trip up the Wailua River, a jaunt to the South Shore or a day shopping local boutiques.

When the sun dips below the horizon, dining options include Hualani’s, named for one of the property’s cultural advisors. Hualani’s menu is literally farm-to-table—as most of the dishes are made with ingredients harvested at The Farm at Hōkūala, in addition to locally caught fish and farm-raised meats.

Timbers Kaua‘i at Hōkūala was carefully designed to provide all the amenities one would desire to feel at home in a luxury vacation destination. Like the resident nene, guests will find they’ll want to return time and again for their Garden Isle respite.
