New Year Evolution
When you hear or see the name Lamborghini, one thinks of a sports car with power, sports car handling and an exciting look. The brand new Revuelto reinforces that view with some additional spins. On the power front, would you believe 1,015 horsepower from a hybrid combo of a 6.5-liter V12 gas power- plant plus three electric motors?
With this combo working together the fuel mileage rating is a reasonable 23 mpg. An 8-speed automatic dual clutch transmission handles normal gear changes, but with huge plus and minus gear paddles behind the steering wheel for manual gear changes. Huge 22-inch wheels with performance tires add to the handling issues. Sixteen-inch rotors handle braking needs. Needless to say, immediate performance is part of the spin. Zero to 60 time is a mere 2.3 seconds, and the top speed is 217 mph.
Of course, the look of the Revuelto screams exotic sports car. Besides having a very low-body design, there are some differences from other super sports cars. From the side, the roof line is very low and long, seemingly going back the rear engine area. A body side scoop is before the back wheel area. The rear area is unique in several respects. The rear engine can be seen behind the back window, and huge upper exhaust ports are surrounded by the rear brake lights. Likewise, the front-end sweeps deeply downward with interesting openings and headlight areas. And, of course, people looked and commented favorably on the design statement.
As seems to be a trend, the two doors swing up when opening, revealing an entertaining interior with two high-bolstered seats. Three video screens are found in front of the driver and passenger. In the middle of the dash is a large screen with most of the information and controls. Likewise, the driver and passenger have smaller screens handling information and functions. The leather covered steering wheel has lots of controls for various functions from interior climate to handling modes. And speaking of handling and ride, there are several suspension settings from mild to racecar-like. In fact, there are 13 driving modes.
Speaking of driving, when starting the car, the sound can be silent in electric motor mode or more entertaining, when the gas motor is running. And, of course, if acceleration is needed, the gas motor takes over and shifts are automatic unless the driver selects the gear choice with the gear lever handles behind the steering wheel. Needless to say, if performance is needed, it is first-class. Interestingly, this sports car has four-wheel steering to help maneuver around in tight areas, and generally steering is light and direct.
So, there you have it ... an attractive supercar with fabulous performance, and when needed, decent fuel mileage. Clearly a trend setter.
