The Pinnacle of Play

With a tropical climate that makes it perfect for year-round golfing, the Dominican Republic is widely recognized as the premier golf destination of the Caribbean. Amanera, the luxury resort perched on the cliffs above Playa Grande Beach, only reinforces that well-earned reputation.

Its secluded location and exclusive experiences make Amanera a tranquil, top-notch getaway with something for everyone, ensuring that no matter how long you stay, it never feels quite long enough.

ROOMS WITH A VIEW

The casitas, all strategically positioned along the coastline, make a strong case for staying in. With spectacular, unobstructed ocean views, expansive terraces for outdoor dining and lounging, and even private swimming pools in some units, the relaxation effect is immediate and lasting. Elegant interiors — featuring lofty ceilings and luxurious bathrooms — provide the perfect retreat. Stays include daily breakfast, in-room refreshments, daily tea, and more. While the casitas are designed with every comfort in mind, it’s when you step outside that the magic truly begins.

CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE

Just beyond your doorstep, two incredible worlds collide: tropical jungle and ocean. Choose from guided treks through protected jungle reserves — where you can discover island wildlife — or immerse yourself in watersports such as surfing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

Plan your visit between January and March to arrange a private whale-watching trip, when humpback whales gather in the nearby waters.

The ocean is also home to marlin, tuna, wahoo and sailfish, making it a dream destination for anglers who can sign up for full- or half-day fishing expeditions.

A REAL CLIFFHANGER

A short ride from the main resort brings you to Playa Grande Golf Course, recognized as one of the most beautiful courses in the Caribbean. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. in the mid-1990s and opened in 1997, the course was reimagined in 2015 by his son, Rees Jones, who updated the layout to maximize the dramatic landscape and ocean views.

The seaside 18-hole course features 10 holes that overlook the ocean from atop breathtaking cliffs, earning it the nickname “the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean.” Each hole presents a different ocean view, with some even requiring you to hit over water.

The par-72 course is both challenging and rewarding, suitable for golfers of all skill levels. Though it offers a relaxed atmosphere and is open to the public, don’t mistake that for an easy day. The excitement starts the moment you step onto the course, and by the time you reach the 245-yard par-3 third hole, you’ll need precision to account for inevitable ocean breezes — a factor throughout the day.

Slopes and elevation changes, especially on the cliffside greens, create a memorable experience, and the wider fairways are a welcome feature. Be sure to pack extra balls, as the jungle-lined fairways and ocean cliffs are known for claiming their share.

The final hole is designed to leave a lasting impression. This par-5 runs along rocky cliffs above the ocean and features some of the most dramatic views on the course—along with its trickiest angles. You can go bold and shoot over a cove of water to reach the green in two strokes or take a safer three-stroke route around. (It’s your memory to make, so choose wisely!)

STRONG FINISH

Wrap up your day with a relaxing and delicious meal at one of Amanera’s dining venues, where fresh, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients are prepared with international flair.

At the main restaurant, Casa Grande, enjoy panoramic ocean views atop 60-foot cliffs while dining on island-inspired dishes, including snapper and octopus. The venue also includes The Library, The Poolside, and The Cigar Lounge—each available for private dinners. The Cigar Lounge also hosts cigar-rolling demonstrations and rum tastings.

For a more casual experience, head to the oceanfront Beach Club, where seafood-focused favorites like ceviche, crab cakes, and calamari shine. Hands-on tacos and salsa cooking classes are also available.

Or, if you prefer something light while enjoying sweeping Atlantic views, visit the Lounge Bar for jungle-inspired margaritas, a curated selection of Caribbean and Central American rums, an exceptional wine list, and a small plates menu that complements it all perfectly.
