24 Hours with Kimberly Leimomi Agas
As the General Manager for Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa, Kimberly Leimomi Agas knows all about spreading the aloha and creating a bit of magic in her day-to-day. And while she keeps very busy at the resort with her various interactions — whether it’s a meeting with a fellow Cast Member or hanging out with Minnie Mouse herself — come May, Agas has something else that’s sure to take up much of her time: becoming a tutu! But for now, let’s see what her current days look like …
The day starts with a walk. Family has always been my number one priority, and our dogs are a big part of our family! ‘Elehiwa (English Cocker Spaniel) and Spike (Belgian Malinois) love their morning routine, and I enjoy quiet time walking through our neighborhood with them.
At the resort, the first Aulani Operations meeting starts at 8:30 every weekday. We have a quick daily catchup with all areas of the resort to review arrivals, important groups or events, ongoing projects, merchandising and other timely topics of the day. Midmorning, I also do walks of the resort with other leaders, and try to see the property from the guests’ perspective.
In the early afternoons, if there’s a birthday coming up, celebrating the people I work with is an important part of what I do as a leader. Recognizing their accomplishments, milestones and birthdays brings us together as a family, which creates a wonderful environment that we all enjoy coming to work at every day. During the weekends, I enjoy crafting, especially with local fabric and making jewelry. The items are personalized for my friends and family.
Another afternoon activity may include a meeting with the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA). I’ve been a hospitality leader in Hawai‘i for more than 30 years, and it’s my honor to use my experience to give back and help provide direction for our industry into the future.
Come sunset, I try to practice what I preach, so I join a few fellow Cast Members a few times a week to walk the lagoons in Ko Olina. It’s almost three miles roundtrip and a great way to enjoy the beauty of our location. When I get home from work, there’s nothing like relishing a homecooked meal (and a glass of wine) with family and catch up with each other’s day.
