Solid State

Solid beauty first came onto the scene as a zero-waste solution to the plastic-packed beauty industry, offering little to no packaging. Companies like LUSH prided (and still do) themselves on offering cruelty- and waste-free bath bombs and soaps, inspiring high-end brands to provide more sustainable solutions, which some interpreted as providing uncommon compositions or reusable containers. Thus, solid beauty can come in many compact forms, with or without luxury packaging. And while some companies and solid creations can’t fully negate packaging, such as many options featured here, the root of solid beauty is all about sustainability or creativity (and as it turns out, portability! Read: no more spills). Some cosmetics companies wanted to offer something atypical that goes beyond solid soap: sticks, bars and even stones and melting massage candles all check the box.
