East-West Center Foundation Dinner

August 2007 - September 2007 HILuxury: The Honorable U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye received the East-West Center's Asia Pacific Community Building Award on Friday, June 1, 2007. The Center's annual fundraiser, held this year at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, was themed "The Magic of East & West," and raised money for East-West Center Scholarships.

Cellist, Carter Brey, of the New York Philharmonic, joined him. The private event, hosted by Louis Vuitton at Kings\' Shops, was a fundraiser for Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

February - March 2012 HILuxury<br />Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHCH) held their annual Share a Night Annual Gala on November 20, 2011. Supporters of RMHCH gathered at the Sheraton Waikiki to honor the <I>Honolulu Star-Advertiser</I> President and Publisher Dennis Francis for his contributions to RMHCH. <br /><br /> Through a strategic plan established by Francis more than 20 years ago that placed newspapers in every Hawai\'i McDonald\'s restaurant, the charity has benefitted to the tune of $2 million. For a non-profit that\'s dealing with dwindling donations from the private and government sectors, the steady stream of revenue from those newspaper sales helps tremendously. As a result of this successful partnership, the program has been instituted for Ronald McDonald Houses across the nation. <br /><br /> The Ronald McDonald House helps Hawai\'i families with children who are seriously ill. Many of these families are from the neighbor islands and have nowhere to stay while their child is receiving critical care at Honolulu hospitals. For O\'ahu-based families, the Ronald McDonald House Family Room at Kapi\'olani Medical Center is a home away from home. All told, 300-400 families stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa each year, and the Family Room services more than 10,000 people annually. <br /><br /> At the gala event that raised $413,000 for RMHCH, guests included dignitaries and families who\'ve benefitted from the Ronald McDonald House.

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> The first Royal Ball in years was held at \'Iolani Palace. With such a regal setting, guests rose to the occasion with elegant formal wear fit for mingling with royalty. Unlike at balls of old, the ballroom itself was located on the lawn fronting the palace (as opposed to the actual Royal Ballroom inside). This fundraiser for the Friends of \'Iolani Palace was a definite crowd-pleaser as evidenced by the guests who didn\'t want to leave at the evening\'s end.

The annual black-tie event celebrates the work of the donors and volunteers and the lives saved each year through the work of the American Heart Association.

HIFF Oscar Night

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> Film lovers donned their best black tie and walked the red carpet at the Halekulani for HIFF\'s Oscar Night America. Guests were treated to a cocktail hour, a silent auction and a menu that paid homage to some of the movies nominated for Best Film, including Hawai\'i favorite, <I>The Descendants</I>.

Chanel Wine Dinner

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> Halekulani continued its Halekulani Living series with a special dinner featuring wines from Chanel-owned Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé estates Chateau Rauzan-Segla and Chateau Canon. Master Chef of Chateau Rauzan-Segla and Chateau Canon, Bruno Chevalier, designed the five-course menu, while managing director John Kolasa chose the wines, flown in from the chateaux, for the meal.

Van Cleef & Arpels At DFS Galleria

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> Guests were treated to a reception at DFS Galleria Waikiki to preview Van Cleef & Arpels\' Lacquered Butterflies collection and the Midnight Extraordinary Japanese Lacquer (Maki-e) Timepieces. Junichi Hakose, the renowned lacquer artist who created the fine jewelry pieces, was on hand to greet the guests and give a demonstration of his Urushi art.

Shoppers were treated to cocktails, hors d\'oeuvres and the chance to chat with Ms. Burch. Proceeds from the sales at the event benefitted the Honolulu Art Museum.

Hawai\'i Art Now

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> Louis Vuitton hosted the opening reception for <I>Hawai\'i Art Now</I> (on view at Honolulu Museum of Art through April 22). The exhibit showcases new works from artists who were featured in <I>Biennial of Hawai\'i Artists</I> from years past. Some of the featured artists, including Kaili Chun, Diane KW and Don Ed Hardy, were on hand to chat with guests.

James Beard Foundation Dinner

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> The Mauna Lani hosted a literal feast for foodies at the second annual Celebrity Chef Tour benefiting the James Beard Foundation. The twoday event featured culinary creations by celebrated chefs and mixologists Sam Choy, Ming Tsai, Tyler Florence, Manny Hinojosa, Jonathan Waxman and Sandy Tuason. Alfred Preis Honor Dinner

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> The prestigious Alfred Preis Honor 2011 was presented to community leader, arts supporter and philanthropist Jean E. Rolles in a celebration held at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. Guests were treated to entertainment provided by Hawaii Opera Theatre and the legendary Nalani Olds, who is also a Punahou schoolmate of Rolles\'. The Alfred Preis Honor is named after the founder of Hawai\'i Arts Alliance and recognizes an individual who has demonstrated in word and action a lifetime commitment to the arts and arts education for the people of Hawai\'i.

Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Opening Night Reception

The auction featured unique offerings such as a Pineapple Room lunch with UH Football Head Coach Norm Chow, a getaway to Red Mountain Resort & Spa and a photo session for your pets with Santa Paws.

Pink Tie Ball

Food author Lucy Lean\'s book, <I>Made in America: Our Best Chefs Reinvent Comfort Food</I> was also featured at this foodie getaway.

Hawai\'i Food & Wine Festival Halekulani Master Chefs Gala Dinner

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> Guests were treated to a lavish formal dinner with dishes created by Hubert Keller (Fleur de Lys, San Francsisco), Yoshihiro Murata (Kikunoi, Japan), Nancy Silverton (Mozza, Los Angeles), Alessandro Stratta (Stratta, Las Vegas), Tetsuya Wakuda (Testuya\'s, Australia) and Hawai\'i-based acclaimed chefs Vikram Garg of Halekulani and Robin Lee of Nobu Waikiki. Proceeds from this elegant affair-like all of the events throughout the Hawai\'i Food & Wine Festival-benefited the Hawai\'i Agricultural Foundation and the Culinary Institute of the Pacific.

La Dolce Vita

Fendi Fatto A Mano For The Future Hawaii

October - November 2011 HILuxury<br /> Roman craftsmen from Fendi worked with Hawai\'i artists Eli Baxter and Aaron Padilla to create contemporary design pieces that meld each artist\'s signature craft with Fendi\'s Italian sensibilities and materials. To celebrate these pieces, guests gathered at the Ala Moana Center and Royal Hawaiian Center boutiques to view them and mingle with the artists themselves. The Roman craftsmen were also on hand, taking appointments with attendees to customize their own Fendi Selleria handbag. Proceeds benefited the University of Hawai\'i Art Department.

Tiffany & Co.

October - November 2011 HILuxury<br />Honolulu had the honor of being the first stop for the launching of the Fall-Winter 2011 offerings from Tiffany & Co.\'s Leather Collection. Designers John Truex and Richard Lambertson were on hand to introduce the line. The instantly iconic Tiffany Reversible Tote (TRT) was an evident favorite among guests.

HPU President Chatt G. Wright Retires

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> REHAB Foundation\'s popular Joy of Food & Wine gala was held at Halekulani. The elegant evening featured the best in culinary offerings and select fine wines. All guests were eager to sample the menu created by this year\'s guest chef, Chef/Owner Alan Takasaki of Le Bistro. All proceeds from the event benefit the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, its programs and patients.

After-School All-Stars Dinner Benefit

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> After-School All-Stars Hawaii celebrated their 2nd Annual All-Star Affair event at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Guests were treated to special musical guests Sunway, Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho, as well as a live auction item facilitated by UH Men\'s Basketball Coach Gib Arnold. The highlight of the evening was the chorus, hip-hop, ukulele performances and personal reflections by All-Stars, all which received standing ovations. The benefit supports All-Star programs at seven middle schools on O\'ahu: Dole Middle, Kalakaua Middle, Jarrett Middle, Washington Middle, King Intermediate, Nanakuli Intermediate and Wai\'anae Intermediate Schools.

Hope Lodge Gala

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> Hope Lodge Hawai\'i Capital Campaign co-chair Dr. Lawrence Tseu welcomed donors and supporters to the Hope Lodge Gala at Modern Honolulu. The Hope Lodge provides a home away from home for cancer patients and their families. The planned Hope Lodge-the first in the state-will be 14,800 square feet with 19 guest rooms. Patients will be provided with free transportation to their treatment facility.

Hawai\'i Food & Wine Festival Streets Of Asia: Morimoto And Friends

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> <I>Streets of Asia: Morimoto and Friends</I> kicked off the first-annual Hawai\'i Food & Wine Festival in its sultry seaside setting at The Modern Honolulu. Featured chefs Justin Quek, Guy Rubino, Edward Kwon, Mourad Lahlou, Charles Phan, Hiroshi Fukui, Chai Chaowasaree and Scott Toner joined chef Masaharu Morimoto for an evening filled with exotic flavors of Asia.

The fundraiser for the Honolulu Zoo Society featured gourmet fare from Morimoto Waikiki, Chai\'s Island Bistro, Azure Restaurant, Hank\'s Haute Dogs, 12th Avenue Grill and more. Silent auction items included the opportunity to have a private dinner at the Zoo\'s newly opened elephant habitat.

Moët On Ice

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> A sparkling crowd gathered for a sunset cocktail party at Morimoto Waikiki showcasing Moët & Chandon\'s new Ice Impérial. All agreed that the chilled bubbly-with mint leaves and lemon slices-was the perfect libation for Hawai\'i\'s tropical soirees.

ILIMA Awards

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> The best of Honolulu dining was feted at the Diamond Head Theatre at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser\'s annual Ilima Awards dinner. The event not only showcases the city\'s must-dine-at restaurants, it\'s also the signature fundraiser for Diamond Head Theatre.

Cinema Italiano

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> Film buffs gathered to celebrate the 8th annual Cinema Italiano. Guests who were lucky enough to get a ticket mingled with jurors Franco Amurri, Bonni Lee, Edgy Lee, Ron Nagasawa and Neal Israel at the VIP Juror\'s Reception. At the Opening Night Gala on the following evening, guests gathered on the rooftop of the Kahala Theatres for food selections from Baci Bistro, La Gelateria, Sabrina\'s, Hoku\'s and more. Then, it was on to the films that included: <I>18 Years Later</I>, <I>A Quiet Life</I> and <I>Happy Family</I>.

The Descendants VIP Reception

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> The Hawaii International Film Festival closed out its 31st year with one of the most anticipated movies for, not only the festival, but the entire fall movie-going season. <I>The Descendants</I>, directed by Oscar-winner Alexander Payne and based on a book by Kaui Hart Hemmings, received a standing ovation after its screening. In the Q&A that followed, the Gabby Pahinui-heavy soundtrack was complimented, and producer Jim Burke encouraged the audience to see the film again, the better to absorb the entire experience. Later that evening, VIP guests-that included Payne, Hemmings and Burke-gathered at Ruth\'s Chris Steak House to fete the movie\'s Hawai\'i premier.

From Mauka To Makai

February - March 2012 HILuxury<br /> It was a foodie dream come true on the Great Lawn of the Hilton Hawaiian Village with celebrity chefs posing for pictures in between handing out their own farm-to-table creations. Joining island chefs Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong were John Besh, Michael Cimarusti, Celestino Drago, Dean Fearing, Michael Ginor.
