East-West Center Foundation Dinner

August 2007 - September 2007 HILuxury: The Honorable U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye received the East-West Center's Asia Pacific Community Building Award on Friday, June 1, 2007. The Center's annual fundraiser, held this year at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, was themed "The Magic of East & West," and raised money for East-West Center Scholarships.

HPU President Chatt G. Wright Retires

October - November 2011 HILuxury<br /> It was a night of drama as Hawai\'i\'s theater community gathered at the Ko\'olau Ballrooms to celebrate their best and brightest at the Hawai\'i State Theatre Council\'s Po\'okela Awards. Diamond Head Theatre walked away with 27 awards, followed by Manoa Valley Theatre with 19 awards and Army Community Theatre with 14. Brad Powell, Artistic Director for The Actors Group (TAG) received the Pierre Brown Award.

Fendi Fatto A Mano For The Future Hawaii

October - November 2011 HILuxury<br /> Roman craftsmen from Fendi worked with Hawai\'i artists Eli Baxter and Aaron Padilla to create contemporary design pieces that meld each artist\'s signature craft with Fendi\'s Italian sensibilities and materials. To celebrate these pieces, guests gathered at the Ala Moana Center and Royal Hawaiian Center boutiques to view them and mingle with the artists themselves. The Roman craftsmen were also on hand, taking appointments with attendees to customize their own Fendi Selleria handbag. Proceeds benefited the University of Hawai\'i Art Department.

Hope Lodge Gala

Special Dinner \"For Japan\"

August 2011 - September 2011 HILuxury <br /> Chef Nobu Matsuhisa welcomed Chef Yuji Wakiya to his Waikiki restaurant where the two offered up a special eight-course <I>omakase</I>. As a preview to this special menu, the two partnered with Halekulani\'s executive chef Vikram Garg for a culinary benefit called \"For Japan\" at the Hau Terrace. The special menu combined the signature cuisines created by the three chefs: Chef Nobu\'s Japanese-Peruvian Cuisine, Chef Wakiya\'s Haute Chinese Cuisine and Chef Vikram\'s Neo-Classic Indian Cuisine. All proceeds from the event-which sold out within hours of being announced-benefited victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

December - January 2012 HILuxury<br /> The Hawaii International Film Festival closed out its 31st year with one of the most anticipated movies for, not only the festival, but the entire fall movie-going season. <I>The Descendants</I>, directed by Oscar-winner Alexander Payne and based on a book by Kaui Hart Hemmings, received a standing ovation after its screening. In the Q&A that followed, the Gabby Pahinui-heavy soundtrack was complimented, and producer Jim Burke encouraged the audience to see the film again, the better to absorb the entire experience. Later that evening, VIP guests-that included Payne, Hemmings and Burke-gathered at Ruth\'s Chris Steak House to fete the movie\'s Hawai\'i premier.

General Gary North, Commander, Pacific Air Forces, and John Henry Felix, Dean Emeritus, were both awarded the Consular Corps of Hawaii\'s Distinguished Service Award.

Alfred Preis Honor Dinner

April - May 2012 HILuxury<br /> The prestigious Alfred Preis Honor 2011 was presented to community leader, arts supporter and philanthropist Jean E. Rolles in a celebration held at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. Guests were treated to entertainment provided by Hawaii Opera Theatre and the legendary Nalani Olds, who is also a Punahou schoolmate of Rolles\'. The Alfred Preis Honor is named after the founder of Hawai\'i Arts Alliance and recognizes an individual who has demonstrated in word and action a lifetime commitment to the arts and arts education for the people of Hawai\'i.

Monsignor Charles Kekumano Benefit Dinner

Greg Norman Announces New Golf Tourney

Contempo Gala

June - July 2012 HILuxury<br /> This year\'s much-anticipated ConTempo took place at Neiman Marcus once more. The first ConTempo since Honolulu Academy of Arts and The Contemporary Museum merged, a long line of cars was already found snaking around Neiman\'s porte-cochère by sun set. Once inside, guests were warmly greeted by ConTempo chair Candice Naylor-Ching and Neiman Marcus General Manager Al Tomonari. For the first hour, the ground floor was buzzing as the chicly dressed crowd mingled with cocktails and silent auction iPods in hand. Though works of art for sale were showcased prior to the big night, sculptures and paintings from the likes of Aaron Padilla, Tracy Teraoka Gunn, Brad Huck and Yvonne Cheng-to name a just a few-were on display for art aficionados and novices alike to admire. From the gorgeous floral centerpieces by events guru Steven Boyle, to the sumptuous feast held at Mariposa (in addition to the men\'s department-turned-dining room), guests were treated to a delightful dinner experience on the third floor. As a result of this successful partnership, the program has been instituted for Ronald McDonald Houses across the nation. <br /><br /> The Ronald McDonald House helps Hawai\'i families with children who are seriously ill. Many of these families are from the neighbor islands and have nowhere to stay while their child is receiving critical care at Honolulu hospitals. For O\'ahu-based families, the Ronald McDonald House Family Room at Kapi\'olani Medical Center is a home away from home. All told, 300-400 families stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa each year, and the Family Room services more than 10,000 people annually. <br /><br /> At the gala event that raised $413,000 for RMHCH, guests included dignitaries and families who\'ve benefitted from the Ronald McDonald House.

They attended at the invitation of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to support Chicago\'s proposal to host the 2016 Olympic Games. Winfrey expressed how much she loves Hawaii and looks forward to spending time here. Hannemann said the Olympics present an exciting opportunity for the United States to showcase American athletic talent, foster meaningful relationships with other nations and draw thousands of international visitors to U.S. cities. He joined Daley and other officials to present to the IOC\'s Evaluation Commission the United States proposal to host the games. Hannemann emphasized to the commission that the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) strongly supports Chicago\'s Olympics proposal. Hannemann is chairman of the USCM Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee.

Hawaii Theatre Center Gala

Maui Film Festival

August 2009 - September 2009: An event that brings out the stars - both in the Wailea sky and from Hollywood - the 2009 Maui Film Festival lived up to its perennially stellar label of being the \"Sundance Film Festival of the Pacific.\" This year\'s festival showcased numerous films, including (500) Days of Summer, featuring actress Zooey Deschanel. ENCORE! was chaired by theatre board member Linda Ahlers. \"Past guests have told us that our gala has some of the most selective and creative auction packages of any Honolulu fundraiser,\" Ahlers said. \"Many items are so special that they otherwise could not be purchased at any price.\"

Maui Film Festival

August 2008 - September 2008 HILuxury: This year\'s Maui Film Festival drew cinema aficionados and A-list celebrities to the beautiful community of Wailea. Events were held from June 17 to 21, with honors being bestowed on Pierce Brosnan, Felicity Huffman, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Quaid for their work in film.

Royal Hawaiian Inaugural Ball

February 2009 - March 2009 HILuxury: A celebration was held at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in honor of President Barack Obama\'s start in office on Jan. 20. The event also served as a benefit for the Hawaii Democratic Party and allowed guests to experience the new renovations of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Obama became the 44th President of the United States and made history as the first African American to hold the office. Obama is celebrated in Hawaii for his local ties, having been born in Honolulu and having graduated from Punahou School.

Symphony Ball

August 2008 - September 2008 HILuxury: Honolulu Symphony held its 11th annual \"Ports of Call\" Symphony Ball to the tune of orchestral music, dancing and festivities. The event serves as a fundraiser for the symphony\'s music education and community outreach initiatives.

HILuxury Anniversary Gala

Ballet Hawaii Benefit

October 2008 - November 2008 HILuxury: Ballet Hawaii hosted a fundraiser Sept. 6, treating attendees to \"Music of the Night.\" Held at a historic Nuuanu home owned by Stanford Carr, the benefit featured performances by stars of Return of the Three Phantoms, fine dining and an \"unequaled, up-close Broadway experience.\"

Historic Hawaii Foundation Fundraiser

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: At the Hawaii Convention Center on Nov. 1, the Historic Hawaii Foundation honored Bert and Susan Kobayashi with the 2008 Kama\'aina of the Year designation for their historical presevation efforts.

TCM Gems and Little Jewels

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: Harry Winston \"dazzles\" the night at The Contemporary Museum\'s \"Gems and Little Jewels\" event graciously hosted at the home of Sharon and Thurston Twigg-Smith. It was an evening of wonderful art, gems and jewels - highlighted with a Harry Winston Diamond Avenue C timepiece that rose to more than $23,000 to benefit the TCM.

Italian Film Festival

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: Actors, actresses and notable community figures turned out for a VIP reception to kick off the Cinema Italiano festival. Held at the Ferrari Maserati showroom, the event treated guests to a film screening as well.

Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Benefit

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: Presented by AIG Hawaii, \"The Joy of Food & Wine\" was held at the Halekulani with special celebrity guest chef Pascal Olhats showcasing his culinary creations. Proceeds from this annual event have raised $1 million over the past 10 years it has been held.

Governor's Ball 2009

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: The 2008 Governor\'s Ball was held at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom on Nov. 15. The event, a fundraiser for the March of Dimes Hawaii chapter, honored Mark Dunkerley and Hawaiian Airlines with the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Award for Distinguished Community Service.

Harry Winston Private Party

October 2009 - November 2009: The House of Harry Winston held a private Ultimate Creations unveiling at the Halekulani Hotel\'s Royal Suite. This exclusive cocktail party showcased a stunning array of the world-famous jewelry house\'s exquisite gems and unique pieces.

Rehab Foundation Gala

October 2009 - November 2009: Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation held its 12th annual Joy of Food & Wine at the Halekulani Hotel. The event, which raised funds for REHAB Foundation\'s Neuro programs, featured live music, wine and delectable Island cuisine by Halekulani Executive Chef Vikram Garg.
