Although just 17 miles from the famous Las Vegas Strip, the club offers an experience that is completely removed from the brightly lit, up-all-night environment of Sin City.

“SouthShore is located in the very quiet, serene Lake Las Vegas Resort,” explains Harry Turner, regional vice president for Pacific Links International, which owns the property. “Those who visit for the first time are very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the golf course and the beauty of the lush landscaping within the community.”

The 18-hole course is open year-round and boasts the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Nevada. The nearly 7,000-yard design of the Par 71 course features dramatic changes in elevation that range from 1,410 to 1,750 feet. Its spacious, forgiving fairways and up to five sets of tees per hole are designed to accommodate players of all skill levels.

“People love the long views provided from all 18 holes,” Turner says. “The resort has a 320-acre lake with more than 10 miles of shoreline, along with hiking and biking paths.”

It is home to many golf events created for its members, such as men’s and ladies’ group and couples golf events, and a busy roster of tournaments. The private club has 344 members, and most of its players are resort property owners and their guests. It also attracts many guests of other Paci~ c Links a° liate clubs.

The stunning views of the course were showcased when it hosted the Wendy’s three-Tour Challenge, in which three players from the LPGA, PGA and Champions Tours competed, in 2005. When the course opened in 1996, it was ranked No. 6 on Golf Digest‘s ranking of Best New Private Courses, and it also has ranked on Golfweek’s list of Best Residential Courses (No. 45) and Best Modern Courses (No. 88).

BEYOND THE COURSE

SouthShore Golf Club others plenty more than a fantastic golfing experience; the clubhouse, which sits prominently above the first and ninth fairways, provides the perfect post-game environment for unwinding or meeting with friends. With sweeping views of the holes, Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead National Park, it is known as much for its stunning views as for its busy events schedule.

“We have a very full social calendar that includes various holiday parties, poker afternoons for ladies and poker evenings for men,” Turner says. “We have various social events that include music, entertainment and dancing.”

The clubhouse also serves up breakfast, lunch and casual dining in its lounge, where meals can be enjoyed either on the patio overlooking the course or inside while watching the big screen TV.

Regardless of where they are enjoyed, culinary delights are a tremendous draw for SouthShore; chef Eric Castillo trained at the esteemed Le Cordon Bleu Academy in Las Vegas and makes all pastas, sauces and dressings in-house. His creativity as a chef has been widely praised, and he spent six years perfecting his skills and building a following as the executive sous chef at the luxury Southern Highlands golfing community before taking command of the kitchen at SouthShore.

“All of the dishes feature the freshest of ingredients and the menu features daily and weekly specials,” says Turner, adding that the menu is changed quarterly. In addition to the daily dining menu, special events like wine tastings and wine dinners provide members with additional reasons to spend an evening or an afternoon at the club.

Since the club’s membership is extremely family oriented, SouthShore creates celebrations for all the major holidays and events including Easter, Christmas, Memorial Day and Halloween, in addition to Sunday brunches.

The Lake Club, which is a sister property to the SouthShore Golf Club and included with membership, provides another option for fine and casual dining. “During the summer months, the Lake Club also others casual dining around the pool area, and it hosts banquets and wedding receptions in the main dining room,” Turner says.

The Lake Club provides members and guests with an extension of the golf club’s social environment, and brings in such amenities as swimming, Jacuzzi, tennis and boutique shopping in a Mediterranean-style village. Its state-of-the-art, 2,500-square-foot fitness center is home to the latest and greatest in ~ tness equipment, with free weights, cardio machines and strength-training equipment. More than 20 fitness classes are held every week (in season) in the Motin Room and the Pilates Studio, and there’s even an 18,000-square-foot sport court complete with basketball hoops and a private beach.
