Get a taste of wine in 29 Cosmetics

A glass of wine a day is good for heart and soul. The same grape-seed extract is regularly used in skin-care products, as well. But it took a winemaker to make the leap in harnessing the power of the grape in a color cosmetics line.

Lydia Mondavi, the owner of Spellbound and Medusa Wines and founder of the spa-consulting firm The Abernathy Group, developed 29 Cosmetics after realizing the way individuals spend so much money in skincare, while often selecting cosmetics lines on the power of colors and packaging.

The idea of color cosmetics that could also benefit the skin “was a missing component in our skin-care regimen,” she said.

Her line encompasses about 60 products utilizing free-radical fighting grape-seed extract, from foundations to Italian fine-milled powders that won’t settle in fine lines. The line boasts lipsticks with names oenophiles can relate to, like “Smokin’ Cab,” “Spicy on the Finish” and “Reserve Red.” A top seller with both men and women is a line of SPF20 Lip Therapies that glide on light and smooth.

29 Cosmetics is available exclusively at Neiman Marcus, at prices from $22 to $52.
