editor-200x300A few years ago, when I was living in Dallas, Texas, spring’s arrival always merited some kind of big announcement. Rightly so-after all, Dallasites wouldn’t want to miss a single day of the short window of perfect weather before temperatures begin soaring into triple digits come early summer.

Luckily, things are rather different here in Hawai’i. The temperate weather doesn’t change much, and spring is really more of a state of mind than a meteorological condition. Bright colors, fresh outlooks and the overall feeling of finding your momentum for the rest of the year seem to take hold at this time.

In this issue, you’ll see signs of spring peppered throughout our pages-from our color-kissed fashion feature on page 106 to tasteful accessories inspired by nature’s beauty. Speaking of inspiration, spring runways seem to have Hawai’i on the brain as well. Get the details on page 27, where Meleana Estes fills you in on the latest and greatest in fashion as our new On Trend columnist.

This current issue of HILuxury also features some spectacular ladies. This being our annual women’s issue, it’s only proper to shine the spotlight on some fierce females. Among our diverse lineup, you’ll come across three mothers whose daughters have followed in their footsteps. Get to know the Philpotts, Inkinens and Dalires in “Mom Pursuits” on page 98.

For our Leaders section, we profile Alicia Moy IV-president and CEO of Hawai’i Gas. A pretty impressive position for anyone to have at any age, but when a 36-year-old, new mother holds that title, somehow the word “multi-tasker” still seems inadequate. This May marks her one-year anniversary in her new role. See how she pulls it all together in “Pure Energy” on page 52.

In contrast, cover subject Juliette Binoche has honed her craft since the ’80s. We get an exclusive interview with the Oscar-award-winning thespian, whose body of work spans three decades. Her characters have run the gamut in a medley of films both here and abroad, and though she has at least three films in production as of late, fans can see her on the silver screen this May in the highly anticipated blockbuster flick, Godzilla. If you see our beloved Rainbow Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village being leveled by a mutant lizard, rest assured that it was all in the name of movie making.

As for me, I’ll be doing a little springtime celebrating as well-by the time you read this I’ll be the proud mom of baby No. 2. Aloha and enjoy the issue!
