editor-200x300Just like the holidays that crept up on us just a few months ago (is it me, but did everyone start decking the halls right after Halloween instead of Thanksgiving last year?), another season is just around the corner. Reruns of A Christmas Story, Home Alone and its subsequent sequels have been replaced by regular programing, and hopefully, our own lives have reverted back to “regular programming.”

Still, with spring in the air and starting anew on most people’s agendas, the coming months should infuse a bit of verve into the usual day-to-day. Here at HILuxury, we’re thrilled to shed some light on a few fresh starts. First, with Hawaii Pops progressing well into its inaugural season, we chat with founder and artistic director Matt Catingub for a glimpse of what else is in store for the recently launched nonprofit. Will Hawai’i embrace the more laid-back approach to appreciating orchestral performances? Only time will tell. Writer Shane Nelson speaks with Catingub for “Pops Star” on p. 54.

In the realty front, real estate maven Mary Worrall and her team at Worrall’s namesake firm join the newly formed LIST Sotheby’s International Realty here in Hawai’i. Writer Christina O’Connor sits down with the group’s top players for “Realty Check” on p. 46.

On the west side, those looking to improve their golf game need to pay Marcus Judge a visit. As Ko Olina Golf Club’s new director of player development, a little oneon-one time with Judge may do wonders for you on the green. Being one of only 16 PGA-certified player development professionals in the country, he just might know a thing or two about sinking that putt. Get to know Judge in “King of Clubs” on p. 64.

Finally, in the spirit of comebacks and taking on new roles, this issue’s cover personality has certainly mastered the art of hat wearing. Though Andrew McCarthy’s acting career is far from over, his day job is spilling into the various sectors of the creative industry- from directing in theater and television to penning a bestseller to winning awards for his travel writing. We caught up with him while he was in town last fall and admittedly, I was just a tad star struck. Yes, I loved his book, The Longest Way Home, and his writing in National Geographic Traveler perfectly complements the magazine’s eye-popping imagery. However, you can’t beat the power of nostalgia. As soon as we crossed paths, the mix tape in my mind started playing OMD’s “If You Leave.” Not sure how he’ll feel about that, but no matter what role he plays, I’ll always be a fan…
