Take in Kapalua Resort’s ultimate golfing package

It doesn’t get much better than Kapalua in January. While most of the mainland shivers in piles of snow and bundles against howling wind, the golf world turns a jealous eye toward the island of Maui as the world’s best golfers begin their quest for majors and Player of the Year honors on one of the PGA’s favored courses. Though the famed Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore-designed Plantation Course has hosted the season opening Mercedes-Benz Championship Golf Tournament since 1999, the Kapalua Resort, for the first time, is offering an ultra-luxurious way to enjoy one of Hawaii’s most popular sporting events.

The seven-day, $45,000 package includes 1,200 to 2,400 square feet Gold Villa oceanfront accommodations with private lanai, round-trip limousine service from the airport, private butler and concierge service, luxury car rental, seasonal VIP guest passes for the tournament along with private sky box seating at the 18th green, custom-fit Ping Golf irons, a private, four-hour catamaran charter on the elegant Shangri La with a gourmet meal and open bar, an exquisite five-course dinner prepared by a private chef in your villa, complete with beer, wine and champagne and so much more.

“This is what our clients expect,” said Kapalua Villas general manager, Carol Koepke Tu’ua. “That’s why the Gold Program was created, so that the Ritz and Villas could work together to provide this wonderful experience. We have pampered our guests, and they expect more, and that’s what the Gold Program is for, and we love doing it. We will stop at nothing to do what it takes.”

The 23,000-acre world-class resort’s Ritz Carlton Hotel has undergone $130 million in upgrades that include an expanded spa to 14,000 square feet with 15 treatment rooms, a refurbished pool, 363 renovated guest rooms and a 107-unit residential suites wing. A large focus of the redesign is to establish a Hawaiian sense of place on the sprawling property that captures the natural colors and scenery of Maui along with celebrating the beauty of the Hawaiian culture.

Another new addition is the Kapalua Adventure Center, which offers a fun, ecofriendly way to enjoy your stay and includes zip lines, a climbing wall, a rope course and 100 miles of walking and biking trails through the resort’s remaining undeveloped 20,000 acres.

The Gold Villas that come with the package have completed their own $250,000 per unit upgrade that includes granite counter tops and marble floors to complement top-ofthe-line appliances and tastefully appointed furnishings.

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship Tournament runs from Dec. 31 to Jan. 6.
